If you have been living next to or close to a busy street, you will know the noise associated with it.
Even worse is when cars are equipped with very noisy exhaust systems that can make peaceful living even more disturbing.
This is especially true if you live along the Lakeshore Road corridor in Clarkson, Lorne Park, Port Credit and Lakeview.
To the delight of many residents who have been complaining about the noise pollution, the Road Safety Services of the Region of Peel has launched “Project Noisemaker” on July 1, 2020.
The project is designed to identify and reduce the number of motor vehicles with modified and/or excessively loud exhaust systems on Peel roads.
The community concern for these vehicles has been increasing and is especially disturbing in residential areas during the day and night.
The Peel Regional Police will be conducting strict enforcement for the entire month of July. We encourage vehicle owners to repair modified exhaust systems and avoid using devices such as factory-issued mechanisms to alter and increase the sound of their vehicles in quiet, residential areas.
Vehicle owners who are found to be guilty, will be subject to charges. The charges include Improper Muffler and Unnecessary Noise contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
These charges include fines of $110 upon conviction.
Our commitment to road safety is a core policing function. Our officers remain vigilant twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week.
Speeding, aggressive driving, and impaired driving, remain a concern of the residents along the Lakeshore Road corridor and will receive the continued enforcement for for officers.
Anyone with information concerning aggressive driving or illegal street racing activities can contact the police by calling 905-453-3311.
The public can also file a complaint through Road Watch or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or at peelcrimestoppers.ca.
